GENERAL INFORMATION

 
Preliminary Student examination is for the beginner and is compulsory. All Professional examinations should be in the following order:
PRELIMINARY STUDENT STUDENT TEACHER (CERTIFICATE)
ASSOCIATE LICENTIATE FELLOW
EXAMINER SENIOR EXAMINER CHIEF EXAMINER
PRELIMINARY STUDENT
Candidates must be 16 years of age or over. Successful candidates are permitted to teach Rainbow Awards, Popular Dance Tests and Grade 1, 2 & 3. The objective of these examinations is to provide experience for candidates in preparation for their student Examination. They do not represent a qualification as a teacher.
STUDENT TEACHER
  Candidates must be 16 years of age or over. Successful candidates are permitted to attend teachers' seminars on payment of the appropriate admission fee. The objective of these examinations is to provide experience for candidates in preparation for their associate Examination. They do not represent a qualification as a teacher.
ASSOCIATE
  Candidates must be 17 years of age or over with Student Teacher certificate.
LICENTIATE
  Candidates for the Licentiate examination must be over 21 years of age with Associate degree and must have had at least 2 years teaching experience immediately prior to their application.
FELLOW
  Candidates must have been full Licentiate (Member) of the branch concerned for at least three years with Licentiate degree.

BALLROOM- PRELIMINARY STUDENT
DEMONSTRATION
  Candidates will be required to dance with a partner as man and lady the Waltz, Foxtrot, Tango, Quick Step and Social Rhythm.
THEORY
Candidates will be expected to dance and explain the following figures:-

BALLROOM- STUDENT TEACHER (CERTIFICATE)
DEMONSTRATION
  Candidates will be required to dance with a partner the Waltz, Slow Foxtrot, Tango, Quickstep.
THEORY
  Candidates will be expected to define the following terms:-
Positions of Feet, Alignment (including Direction in the Tango), Amounts of Turn, Rise & Fall, Foot works, C.B.M., C.B.M.P., and Sway.
  To give a simple description of Forward and Backward Walks, Hold, Time and Tempo of each dance and a selection of the following terms: Natural Pivot, Pivoting Action, Closed Turn, Open Turn, Heel Turn, Heel Pull, Brush Step and the Hold as applied to the various dances.
  To give one precede and follow to each specified figure.
  Technical analysis and solo demonstration of the specified figures as Man and Lady is confined to Positions of Feet, Alignment, Rise & Fall, Footwork, Contra Body Movement, Timing and Counting in Beats and Bars.
STUDENT TEACHER:

BALLROOM- ASSOCIATE
DEMONSTRATION
  Candidate will be required to:-
  Dance with a partner the four Standard dances
  Dance solo to music, as Man and Lady, an amalgamation of two or three of the specified figures of the examiner's choice in any of the four standard dances.
  Start an imaginary class to music. The dance(s) to be of the examiner's choice.
THEORY
  Candidate will be required to:-
  Define Time, Tempo, Hold.
  Have a knowledge of Technical Terms, Balance, Deportment and the application of the following basic principles to every specified figure:- Counting in Slows & Quicks, Counting in Beats, - Counting in Beats & Bars, Positions of Feet, Footwork, Alignment, Amount of Turn, Rise & Fall, Sway, CBM, Forward and Backward Walks, Description of figures, Two Precedes and Follows.
  Answer simple questions on Class Teaching methods

DEMONSTRATION
  A higher standard of dancing will be expected than for the Associate.
THEORY
  Candidates will be examined on the Associate Syllabus PLUS the addition of the specified figures listed below. Candidates will also be required to explain and give a practical demonstration of their methods of teaching.

BALLROOM- FELLOW
DEMONSTRATION
  Candidates must be prepared to demonstrate and explain the figures included in the Associate and Membership Syllabus, but a deeper knowledge will be required together with the ability to teach both professionals and amateurs at a high level. They will also be asked to describe teaching methods to a Private Pupil and all grades of Classes. Candidates must also have a working knowledge of the following named variations (see appendix)

DEMONSTRATION
  Candidates will be required to dance with a partner the Rumba, Samba, Paso Doble, Jive and Cha Cha Cha.
THEORY
  Candidates will be expected to give a simple description of Hold, Time & Tempo, Balance and Rhythms of each dance. To give one precede and one follow to each specified figure. Technical analysis and solo demonstration of the specified figures as Man and Lady is confined to: Simple Descriptions, Positions of Feet, Amount of Turn, Footwork, Timing, Counting in Beats, Counting in Beats and Bars.

  Candidates will be required to answer simple questions on the methods of Class Teaching.

THEORY
Candidate will be required to:-
